Back when I initially came out at work, I was absolutely terrified. Honestly, I believed my professional life was done. But here's the thing, the situation ended up so much better than I anticipated.

My first job after transitioning was in a progressive firm. The vibe was on point. The whole team used my chosen name from the get-go, and I didn't have to face those cringe interactions of continually fixing people.

Industries That Are Truly Trans-Friendly

Based on my professional life and chatting with other transgender workers, here are the fields that are actually making progress:

**IT and Tech**

Silicon Valley and beyond has been exceptionally progressive. Organizations such as major tech players have robust diversity programs. I secured a gig as a tech specialist and the support were unmatched – comprehensive benefits for gender-affirming expenses.

I remember when, during a standup, someone accidentally used wrong pronouns for me, and like multiple coworkers right away jumped in before I could even process it. That's when I knew I was in the right company.

**Arts and Media**

Creative services, brand strategy, video production, and creative roles have been quite accepting. The culture in creative spaces tends to be more accepting inherently.
